Jose Altuve signs 5-year extension with the Astros

Jose Altuve's brief flirt with disgrace seems to be over in baseball fans' eyes, and clearly with the Houston Astros front office, as the second baseman appears to be an 'stro for life.

On Tuesday night, reports broke that Altuve had signed a 5-year, $125m extension to stay with the club through 2029, as he would be a free agent after 2024. This means that from 2025-2029, Altuve will have an AAV of $25m even, quite a lot of money.

If you don't know what AAV is, it's the average amount of money that a player makes per year.

Many people haven't forgiven Altuve for his alleged involvement in the Astros' cheating scandal that took place between 2017 and 2019, but even since reports about that broke, Altuve has still been one of the best players in baseball.

Between 2020 and 2023, without the potential aid of buzzers, trash cans, or other foreign objects, Altuve his .277, with 81 homers and 209 RBIs, as well as a nifty 128 OPS+.

The contract will bring the Venezuelan-born infielder to his age 39 season, basically cementing his status as a lifelong Astro.
